Summary

The Water Quality Laboratory is seeking an individual for temporary employment for Summer 2024, from May to August. The laboratory/field assistant is 5 days a week for 40 hours.  Job responsibilities will include preparation for field sampling events, preparation for wet chemistry laboratory work which is primarily cleaning of laboratory dishes, and participation in field sampling events on the Chesapeake Bay.  Requires the ability to conduct field work on boats on the Chesapeake Bay in a variety of weather and sea conditions.  Overnight travel may be required.


Job Responsibilities:
  1. Preparation and participation in field Sampling events.
  2. Assist Laboratory Technicians in preparation of laboratory work.
  3. Cleaning of labware.
  4. Follow procedures in accordance with Virginia Environmental Laboratory Assessment Program and WQL Standard Operating Procedures.
  5. Collection and filtration of water samples in the Chesapeake Bay.
  6. Wet Chemistry Lab Work.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Formal Education required (Minimum): degree, field of study

High school diploma or equivalent with one college semester of introductory to chemistry completed preferred. The position would be particularly suitable for current college student or recent college graduate.

Experience required (Minimum): in whole years

This position is entry level. Prefer science majors.

Specific knowledge and/or skills (must have to be qualified):

Prior lab experience preferred but not required.
