Mentor Supervisor - Discover Your Dominion

Summary

Advise and counsel second year male sophomore students on how to successfully navigate college; Review and assess students’ academic performance; Supports student success, retention, and progression to graduation; provides individualized student outreach to students who are identified at-risk.

Coordinate student outreach and ensure all Discover Your Dominion participants receive appropriate outreach and manage escalation response. Responsible for accurate and timelessness of outreach assessment and reporting to leadership. Requires knowledge and understanding of complexities of the university including policies and procedures to assist students.

Supervises peer mentors.

Develops targeted programming to support male students in need and celebrates their accomplishments.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Mentor Supervisor and assist in the implementation and assessment of the Discover Your Dominion Work Plan and Educational Units Curriculum.
  • Provide individualized outreach and mentoring to students based on identified risk factors. Coordinate outreach to freshmen program participants.
  • Assist students in developing personal, academic, career and social goals that will contribute to academic and personal success. Assist students in developing and implementing individual action plans towards achieving identified goals. Aid students in identifying and overcoming barriers to success. Suggest strategies for measuring student’s progress toward excellence within a realistic timeframe. Refer and connect students with relevant University resources and services.
  • Build relationships with students by delivering personalized, constructive, engaging, and informative coaching and mentoring sessions. Cultivate relationships that foster developmental conversations and motivates students to achieve desired goals. Contact, schedule and meet with students on a weekly or biweekly basis.
  •  Monitor and record progress of students. Maintain appropriate documentation using the CRM to include data related to student goals, student performance and strategies implemented by coach/mentor to assist in student success. Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of related records and data.
  • Support Retention outreach initiatives. Coordinate with University stakeholders regarding additional outreach and support. Keep abreast of changes in student services and resources to ensure that students are referred to the appropriate resources. Participate in University or Division wide committees. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Retention Outreach Initiatives
  • Support events and programs involving interaction with students to ensure successful transition and progression. Examples include participating in campaigns that utilize Target X CRM tool; planning, executing, and responding to targeted text message outreach campaigns, conducting workshops targeted toward student success. Supervise peer mentor/coaching programming. Perform other duties as assigned.
  •  Special Projects
  •  Oversee and manage special project related to retention, progression, and graduation of DYD program participants.
    Assist in new staff on-boarding and training. Develop and assess engaging communication plan that successfully markets resources and supports to students. Coordinate with leadership to collect, analyze, and report outcomes of special programming. Manage and monitor metrics and assessment of programming to determine effectiveness and make recommendations to leadership. Oversee external requests of presentations and trainings for campus partners.
  •  Orientation/Summer Outreach
  •  Promote Discover Your Dominion at Orientations
  •  Create a targeted outreach campaign over the summer to connect with incoming first-year program eligible male students, to connect them to resources and familiarize them with the program.
  • Work with offices across campus (admissions, learning and leadership, career development services) to connect first- and second-year students to programs and resources to support male student success.
  • Promote success coaching program with students and families.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or training: Bachelor’s degree in higher education, counseling, psychology, education, social work, or relevant field with equivalent work experience to equate to a master’s degree. Prefer master’s degree in higher education, counseling, psychology, education, social work, or relevant field.

Level and type of experience:

Experience in advising, mentoring, coaching, or related field. Experience in a higher education setting, working with student focused initiatives.
