Summary

Manages the Department of Ocean & Earth Sciences marine facility, including equipment inventories, space allocations, staging research operations, materials storage, and disposal, maintaining fire safety compliance. Manage the departmental vehicles (2). Manages, maintains, and operates small boats (3). Acts as relief crew/3rd crew member aboard research vessel  (R/V Fay Slover) as needed.

- Manages, maintains, and operates small boats for research, instructional, and outreach purposes in the Chesapeake Bay and local waters

- Participates as relief crew/3rd crew member aboard the R/V Fay Slover when needed for day trips.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manages, maintains, and operates small boats for research, instructional, and outreach purposes in the Chesapeake Bay.
  • Participates as relief crew/3rd crew member aboard the R/V Fay Slover when needed for day trips.
  • Manages & maintains warehouse operations, including inventories, marine operations staging areas, materials storage and disposal as needed.
  • Billing/invoicing of small boat operations 
  • Other duties as assigned 
Education and/or training:
Associates degree or BA degree with two years working experience in marine science or other technical field. Small boat handling and
trailering.

Level and type of experience:
Prior experience with boats up to 60 feet
Preferred experience with oceanographic instrumentation and
2 years of forklift operations

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Prior experience with boats up to 60 feet.
• Solid mechanical skills and ability to work with little supervision.
• Microsoft Suite software applications
