Summary

Manages, maintains, and operates multiple small boats (< 25 ft.) for the department of Ocean & Earth Sciences. Manages departmental vehicles (2). Acts as relief crew/3rd crew member (deckhand) aboard the R/V Fay Slover as needed. Assists in managing the Department of Ocean and Earth Sciences marine facility, including equipment inventories, space allocations, staging research operations, materials storage and disposal, maintaining fire safety compliance.

Job Responsibilities:

Manages, maintains, and operates small boats for research, instructional and outreach purposes in Chesapeake Bay, local rivers and offshore. Assists in billing/invoicing for small boats.
Participates as relief crew/3rd crew member aboard the R/V Fay Slover as needed.
Assists in managing and maintaining marine facility operations, including inventories, research operations staging, materials storage, and disposal as needed.

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Familiarity with small boat operations, trailering and maintenance required.

  • Prior experience operating, and launching and recovering by trailer boats up to 25 ft
  • Mechanical skills and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Microsoft Suite software applications.
  • Clean driving record is required.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Preferred qualifications for this position:

Experience with aquatic instrumentation.

Prior experience with boats up to 25 ft. required; prior experience with boats up to 55 ft. preferred

Special licenses, registration, or certification:

USCG OUPV License (Six Pack License) required; 100 GT Near Coastal License Preferred.
