Summary
A world leading team on smart systems and renewable energy team at the Old Dominion University is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join our esteemed research team. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will independently work on a well-funded research project in submerged piezoelectric ocean wave energy convertors (SPOWECs) for underwater power generators. Conducting to this research will include 1) addressing the fundamental issues on ocean wave and structure interactions and piezoelectric transducer for power conversion design, modeling and experimental validations, 2) analyzing experimental data, generating technical reports, and publishing research findings in reputable scientific journals, 3) helping professor (PI) advice graduate students and undergraduate students, and 4) collaborating with professor to seek additional funding opportunities.
Job Responsibilities:

Conduct research on piezoelectric materials, transducer design, and fabrication techniques to optimize piezoelectric energy transducer performance.

Ocean wave and structure interactions and energy pick up.

Finite element modeling for submerged piezoelectric ocean wave energy convertors (SPOWECs) performance.

Develop standard operating procedures for experiments.

Write research papers and reports.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or training: Ph.D. degree in engineering or physics

Level and type of experience: 0-3 years of experience

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities: piezoelectric transducers and ocean wave energy

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Piezoelectric materials and devices, ocean energy, finite element modeling, and hand on expereince

Special licenses, registration, or certification:

N/A

Education or training (cite major area of study):

Ph.D. in engineering, energy, or physics

Level and type of experience:

has journal papers published in the areas of piezoelectric devices, and renewable energies

Applicant must be self-motivated and be responsible for generating, analyzing and preparing data for presentations and publication.  Collaborative discussion with PI and Research Director will define the project.
