Summary
The Department of Physics at Old Dominion University invites applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate specialized in experimental AMO physics, to begin immediately and will be a 12-month appointment. This Post-Doctoral Research Associate will conduct research on trapped-ion quantum computing under the supervision of Dr. Matt Grau. The position is a two-year, restricted appointment, subject to funding, availability, and satisfactory progress.

Expertise with lasers

Experience with closed-cycle cryostats

Experience with ARTIQ or similar control system

Experience with Python, in particular QuTiP 

PhD in the field of Experimental AMO physics with a focus on trapped-ions, quantum computing, or precision measurement.

Job Responsibilities:
Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research as agreed upon with the Principal Investigator.

Participate in the preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication as co-author.

Engaging in self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, and attending seminars as directed by the faculty member.

This position will supervise two graduate research assistants as well as undergraduate researchers.

The overall research goals and agenda will be set by the supervisor, how to achieve those research goals will be left to the discretion of the candidate, with appropriate feedback.

Other duties as assigned.
