Summary
Old Dominion University is seeking a Coordinator of Strategic Communications and Outreach.
The primary duties of this position include all activities needed to recruit faculty/students and to disseminate information on ODU Ellmer School of Nursing (ESoN) as required of the grant.

Responsibilities will include developing the messaging/branding of programs within the Ellmer School of Nursing in collaboration with ODU expertise (branding, graphic design, etc.).  This position is also responsible for researching, developing, implementing, and assessing a focused communications and marketing/recruitment campaign for the entire ESoN through cultivation of relationships with faculty, students, alumni, parents, employers and friends. It serves as the liaison between University Marketing and Alumni Relations peers, affiliated partners, and other internal/external stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

Messaging/Branding/ Strategic Communications and Outreach

  • Work closely with faculty, students, and administration in the Ellmer School of Nursing (ESoN) to “Know” the ESoN and identify unique/innovative aspects of the programs offered (i.e., academic processes, educational programs, community engagement)
  • Collaborate with ODU Office of University Communications in overseeing consistent, accurate, and inspiring messaging that is visually appealing, aligns with brand-guidelines and meet organizational standards
  • Facilitate the development of marketing/informational materials that are consistent and accurate representation of the ESon
  • Research trends and social media/engagement tools for a targeted

    campaign by utilizing public relations, advertising, brand management and design

  • Responsible for photos, videos, written and web-based communications to facilitate consistent messaging

 

Media Presence

  • Facilitate the presence of activities/accomplishments occurring within the ESoN through social media (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Assist faculty in improving their social media presence
  • Facilitate the visibility of ODU ESoN activities within television, radio, etc.
  • Track and promote, through social media, the accomplishments within the ESoN, among faculty and students, and within the community (Awards, presentations/publications/grants and other funding, accomplishments, community impact, etc.).
  • Research, write, and edit impactful stories, profiles, and testimonials to highlight ESoN (ESoN Magazine, social media, newsletter, etc.)

 

Marketing/Engagement/Recruitment/Outreach

  • Foster activities to increase ranking of ESoN among nursing schools nationally
  • Assist in marketing of CEU programs to reach out nationally[LR1]
  • Oversee the recruitment efforts for both students and faculty within the ESoN (journals, websites, social media, organizations, etc.)
  • Track and develop programs to engage alumni in collaboration with Alumni Affairs and advancement (i.e., workshops, CEU programs, social events, etc.)
  • Track and develop programs to engage community (i.e., workshops, CEU programs, social events, etc.)
  • Oversee exhibits at conferences, recruitment fairs, etc.
  • Use statistical data to define historical patterns and identify demographics and trends to improve effectiveness of outreach marketing plan
  • Assumes a leadership role in tracking progress and reports on the accomplishments of ESoN’s strategic goals, objectives, and action.
  • Become well versed in all components of the ESoN including how the various functions can work together to complement each other and how best to utilize them and produce the greatest ROI.
  • Serves as the liaison with the University’s Marketing and Communications department.
  • Oversee timelines for submissions and production schedule of materials.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education and/or training:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, advertising, marketing, journalism, or a related field.

Level and type of experience:

3+ years of experience in branding, marketing, writing, or recruitment, with a proven track record content creation.

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong storytelling and narrative development skills, with experience interviewing and writing compelling stories.
  • Excellence in utilization of social media avenues and technologies
  • Ability to translate complex data and program details into relatable and inspiring content.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience working cross-functionally with design, development, and program teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of branding principles and experience ensuring compliance with brand guidelines.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Considerable knowledge of public relations, communications, and marketing strategies.
  • Considerable knowledge of data collection, evaluation, and reporting of program/plan effectiveness.
  • Skill in writing, reporting, and promoting programs based on independent research, interviews, document review, dashboards, and interaction across the communities served.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of Implementation or Improvement Science; Experience delivering specially designed instruction with positive outcomes for students with disabilities. Coaching experience (Instructional or Systems)

Reading Specialist Endorsement

Experience with implementing literacy across a tiered system of support, to include knowledge of research or evidence-based interventions, progress monitoring, data informed decision making, and/or data-based individualization (DBI).
