Summary

ODU Research Foundation seeks a Laboratory Technician for the Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics.

The successful applicant will demonstrate responsibility, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively within a research team environment.

Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Biology or related field required.

Master’s Degree (M.S.) in Biology or related field preferred.

Basic experience with handling laboratory animals (preferably mice), including restraint and basic injections (e.g., intraperitoneal, subcutaneous); Familiarity with sterile technique and sample preparation (e.g., tissue collection, fixation).

Experience performing animal surgeries or injections preferred.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Conducting routine animal handling and care, including pre- and post-operative support.
  • Perform animal injections and assist with small animal surgeries.
  • Independently perform minor surgical procedures on laboratory mice.
  • Prepare and process tissue samples for subsequent biomolecular analyses.
  • Conduct specialized procedures, including lung function assessments using FlexiVent equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records.
  • Assist in general laboratory maintenance and organization.
