Summary
Full time position in a water quality laboratory. Perform analytical procedures following SOPs and documented methods, including preparation for field sampling and wet chemistry for various nutrients and water quality parameters. Conduct fieldwork on boats in Chesapeake Bay in various weather and sea conditions.
Job Responsibilities:
Participation in field sampling events as field technician.
Preparation for field sampling events. Includes loading the boat and driving an ODU vehicle.
Performs wet chemistry and instrumental laboratory work.
Maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and calibration of several complex field and laboratory instruments.
Conducts data quality assessments (DQA) and performs peer review of all data generated.
Perform necessary computer work.
Sample pickup and delivery of samples using an ODU vehicle or a rental car.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires B.S. or equivalent in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or related field.
Entry Level Position. Previous laboratory work- college lab courses qualify for this. One year of college chemistry.
A science degree with one year of college chemistry. Ability to work on boats and in the field.

Other:
Know how to swim- safety reasons for going on a boat.
Valid driver’s license
Ability to travel overnight

Preferred qualifications:
Prior field and laboratory experience particularly if in a nutrient laboratory or on research vessels.
Analytical Chemistry. Environmental courses.
Basic Laboratory techniques
