Summary

A Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Petra Popovics within the Department of Biomedical and Translational Sciences. The laboratory conducts basic and translational research focused on benign prostate disease. The successful candidate will support projects investigating the prostate transcriptome, proteome, and lipidome in mouse models of inflammation and hyperplasia, as well as in human specimens. Responsibilities will include mouse breeding, genotyping and urinary testing and performing chemical, biological, molecular, surgical, and other laboratory techniques in support of these studies. Experience working with rodents as research models is strongly encouraged. Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and technically skilled applicants with relevant laboratory experience are encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Mouse breeding, genotyping, urinary function testing
  • Processing human specimens
  • Documentation, compliance, maintaining databases
  • Laboratory management – supplies, maintain instruments
  • Support of other projects as needed: imaging, histology, making buffers etc.

Education and/or training:

Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field.  

Level and type of experience

Basic, hands on laboratory experience

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Prior experience with mouse handling and experimental procedures is highly preferred. Prior experience at least in some of the following techniques is required: tissue culture, western blotting, PCR, immunohistochemistry, imaging and immunoassays.
