The Nanoscale Bioelectrical Physics laboratory at the Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics at Old Dominion University seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a team investigating electric field interactions with biological systems at the molecular and cellular scales. The specific project involves applying a recently developed technique for quantitative fluorescence detection of hydroxyl radical (OH·) to confocal imaging and microplate photometry. The qualified candidate will have a Ph.D. biology, biophysics, physiology, or related discipline and a demonstrated ability to work productively at the intersection of life science and bioengineering, and must have hands-on, published experience in experimental membrane biology and biophysics and fluorescence confocal microscopy imaging of living cells. Job Responsibilities:

1. Maintains and propagates cells in culture, utilizes general cell culture techniques.

2. Captures and analyzes confocal fluorescence images of living cells.

3. Combines fluorescence imaging with exposure of cells to pulsed electric fields.

4. Utilizes knowledge and experience to develop new fluorescence imaging protocols.

5. Develops methods for monitoring cellular distribution of reactive oxygen species.

6. Provides training to students and technicians.

7. Works in collaborative teams in the lab, in the Center, and with groups in other labs.

8. Analyzes data, reports results at research conferences and in scientific journals.
