Old Dominion University’s Vision Lab is seeking candidates to participate in a NIH sponsored project which focuses on creating a comprehensive and robust methodology for automatically extracting and generalizing the information latent in medical images for tasks such as disease analysis, surgical planning and precision medicine. Successful candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
Possible research topics include but are not limited to improving disease classification by combining genomic, histopathology and radio mic data with clinical information for precision medicine, segmenting longitudinal medical scans, shape modeling and analysis, deformable models, statistical image analysis, registration, pattern classification and machine learning. Primary neuroscience applications are to brain tumor, multiple sclerosis, AD, traumatic brain injury and autism. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who have demonstrated academic excellence, including publications in first-class journals and conferences.

The ideal candidate will have the following Qualifications and Skills:
A. Excellent problem-solving skills applied to developing image-processing and machine learning algorithms.
B. Multi-year experience and fluency with computer programming in MATLAB language (esp. for medical image analysis).
C. Excellent communication skills and good inter-personal skills.

Job Responsibilities:
• Provide technical expertise in area of medical image analysis and machine learning with a focus on acknowledged specialty.
• Develop/support research as directed by Principle Investigator in support of sponsored research.
• Supervise students as required.
• Attend conferences in order to maintain technical expertise.
• Participate in Grants Writing in support of Principal Investigators.
• Write technical reports.
• Support the maintenance and management of the technical infrastructure as dictated by the Principal Investigator.
• Conduct technology demonstrations in support of Vision Lab research efforts.
• Writing of reports and papers in international peer reviewed journals.
• Make public presentations of research results as needed
